Character classes in Warhammer Online is different from some other MMOs. In Warhammer Online race determines the class. This means that there may be a shaman of the High Elves and shamans are goblins.
There are many similarities between classes within the race and some obvious distinctions between the classes. Classes or careers are divided into four distinct categories: Tank, melee DPS, ranged DPS and healing. I think the original plan was to have one of each available for each race, but not all of them were ready yet and had to be abandoned. At this stage there is no Empire or Dark Elf tank and no dwarf melee or dps green skin types. I guess that will be added in the game again at some point. Some classes are also limited by gender. Dark Elf Witch can only be a woman, while the Chaos Marauder can only be male.
Your first real decision about choosing a side – Order or Destruction. If you can not stand to be a villain if your choices are reduced by half. If all of your friends is that rolls of destruction, it does not really matter if you liked the high elves.
After that, you must decide what type of game appeals to most of you style. If you already play MMOs so it’s probably not so difficult to admit that you prefer to blow, or prefer class pet, or want to refuel and take the beating. Warhammer classes do not differ from that mold all very much.
One of the refreshing news is that healers are versatile. I played four of the six healers and was struck by how much the healers have to do. Not more than sit in a seat watching the green health bars, click and heal. Warhammer healers have much more to do.
For those interested in Warhammer Online, I recommend buying the preorder and get in open beta. That gives him a week to try and decide which class is right for you. The pre-order also gives you a step ahead of the release date so you can create your character and leave the newbie zone before anyone else
